A day trip, a party, a modeling session and scrapbooking

On Tuesday was Jer's birthday. I wanted to do something special for him, so I called his boss the day before and arranged for Jer to skip the day on Tuesday. I didn't tell Jer he wasn't going to work until Tuesday morning while he was getting ready for work. He didn't believe me, it was quite funny! He didn't want to know what we were going to be doing so I just told him to go clean the car while I got myself and the girls ready. Then his sister came over at 8:30 to stay with the girls for the day and we were out the door at 9:00. By then he had already guessed what we were doing. We were going to go to Grand Forks, ND for the day to go shopping. Just the two of us. It only takes 2 hours to get there and the Canadian dollar is better than it's been in many, many years.

We found lots of great deals, we ate at a really great Mexican restaurant (and since it was his birthday, he got his meal free...bonus!), he got to spend time in Cabela's, I got some scrapbooking stuff at target (see below) and I found the girls some great clothing, which they needed. All in all a fun day.

When we got home at 7:00, his guests started arriving for his birthday party. I had made Mississippi Mud Pie the night before and we all feasted. A funny story behind his birthday party...I called the day before to invite a bunch of his friends and their wives (who are my friends) to come for cake. As it turned out only 2 of the guys could make it (and their wives couldn't, but the other wives could make it and their husbands couldn't. What guy wouldn't want a birthday party with mostly women? LOL! Fortunately 3 more guys showed up later and all was well.

Below are the pictures of my great deals.

Ella was thrilled about these flip flops and her new shirts! I think she's already changed in and out of the shirts about 10 times : )

Cutie patootie Aidan in her little pale green outfit (they are gaucho pants, so cute!)

This little floral sundress is darling on her with her red hair! She's thrilled over the fact that there are "pat-ties" under (you'll notice she's showing them off in the picture on the left).

This is all the coordinating scrapbooking stuff I bought at Target (SUPER Target!), isn't it lovely? I just loved all the colors.

This just shows all the different patterns of the paper included in this
slab of paper. Can't wait to use it.

Pretty spakly flowers...

...and matching ribbon. Sigh! Just love it! I also bought big chipboard letters, small round alphabet stickers and a pad of matting papers. Makes me all giggly seeing it all together and how matchy-poo it is : ) One day when I make a scrapbook page or ten out of this stuff, I'll post pictures. Anyone want to have a scrapbooking day soon? Anyone?

a day without kids, shopping, AND eating at Paradiso...and coming home to a house full of friends -- what a wonderful way to spend the day.

Now wait...was this happy birthday to Jer? Or to Erin? LOL! (I've never used the "lol" thing until just now)

Andrea - yes, it was so enjoyable for me that I actually wonder who enjoyed it more ; ) But I do know for a fact that he had an awesome day. So that's all that counts (regardless of how much money I spent and how much fun I had).

I love to scrapbook. In fact, a friend of mine & I are going to our local scrapbook store tonight for Crop Night!! It's $10 to scrapbook for 6 hours w/ dinner!!

And, another friend of mine hired me to do her wedding scrapbook!! Getting paid to do something I love...what a deal!!

Sounds like you and your husband had a great day! What a good idea to arrange for him to have the day off and keep it a secret! I'm gonna have to try that one sometime.
And, I love the scrapbooking stuff. I bought the exact same ribbon, flowers, paper and lil sticky bubble letters not too long ago.

Happy Belated Birthday to Jer.
I've missed reading your blog but I'm back and have to play catch up now.
Sounds like you had a really nice time and how sweet of you to surprise him like that.
If only I were closer, oh how I'd love to get together for some scrapbooking fun.

Happy Birthday, Jer (coming in late), who I don't know but I have a feeling I'll one day meet you!

Great buys, Erin! I love Target's scrapbooking stuff. I just like to look even though I never buy! :) Anything Target rocks, though!

And the outfits....all so so cute! We must go shopping TOGETHER!

If his b-day was the 7th, then that's 4 people I know with that special day, including my mamma!

Hope to 'talk' to you soon, E!
